NYC’s Potential Ban on Styrofoam

There are many points that support and oppose the proposed ban on Styrofoam in New York City.  In this post we will question whether a ban on Styrofoam will do more harm than good to the economy and the environment of NYC.

Instead of banning Styrofoam, can we simply collect and recycle the material?  The world’s largest manufacturer of foam products would like to hope so, as the company “Dart” proposes a Styrofoam recycling program to NYC.

If Styrofoam were to be banned, how would that influence small restaurants and the local economy?  Small food service businesses that are barely making ends meet rely on cheaper products to serve and sell their foods.

How would the changes in trash and recycling affect New York City cleaning service and rubbish removal companies?  Many commercial and residential cleaning companies would have to implement different programs to properly collect, prepare, and dispose of Styrofoam.

What are the alternative materials that would be used in place of Styrofoam?  Many proposed substitutes for Styrofoam are not even more environmentally friendly.

What is your take on the Styrofoam ban?

Health Tips for Cleaning

Cleaning is just like exercising and you should adopt some of the same principles and advice from people who workout:

1) Never bend your back to clean, always bend your knees.

2) Remember to breath while cleaning, taking deep breaths during laborious tasks.

3) Take mini breaks during the cleaning (or workout) to avoid overexertion.

4) Drink lots of water!

These are some of the health tips that our office cleaning company in Brooklyn teaches and trains our employees to implement in our buildings in the buildings we clean. If you would like more information, please feel free to call us at 718-832-8886.

Microfiber is manufactured by splitting polyester and polyamide fibers into smaller, thinner pieces of fiber so that they’re able to penetrate and clean the pores of surfaces. Microfiber also picks up spills and dirt better than other materials, absorbing up to 5 times its own weight in liquids.

Want to get rid of water stains and mineral rings in your toilet bowl but don’t want to touch a wet, dirty toilet brush?

The smartest thing would be to hire a new york city commercial cleaning company to take care of all your restroom cleaning needs… but, if you’d like to do it on your own here’s an easy solution:

1. Purchase a Magic Eraser, either the name brand, generic, or “imperfect”, it doesn’t matter.

2. Use scissors and cut off a strip of magic eraser about 1” thick.

3. Before you go to sleep, drop the magic eraser in the toilet bowl and when you wake up in the morning, the rings and stains will be gone.

Combine 4 parts hydrogen peroxide and 1 part lemon juice to create a non-toxic bleach subsitute that will kill germs and deodorize floors.

Purchase hydrogen peroxide from Costco for two 32-oz bottles for $1.99 and a 32-oz bottle of lemon juice from any supermarket for less than $3.00.  Bleach is generally one gallon for $2.50, so in the end you are paying practically the same price.

Our brooklyn office cleaning company has used this substitute for many new york city office cleaning clients who used to clean with bleach and have now made the transition to eco-friendly products.  They all wish they made the change sooner!
